DJ Danny Walsh
Wigan Pier resident for
5 years
How
long have you been a DJ?
About 3/4 years seriously, Ive had turntables
longer, but as I used to work away from home I didnt
get chance to use them a lot. |
| |
What inspired you to becom
a DJ? |
I know this may seem corny, but its the truth!!
The first time I went to the Dreaming A Dream
night at the pier in 1990/91 ,The reaction the DJ (Malc
C) got, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. From that
point I knew it was something I wanted to do, it just
took me a while to get round to it as I was enjoying myself
to much on the otherside of the decks. |
| |
What was your first
gig and how did you blag it? |
School disco playing belgium techno! First proper place
was maximes, managed to get on because it was a night
me and a friend of mine put on ourselves. |
| |
How would you define the tunes
you play? |
Uplifting vocal trance with a couple of bouncy bits
thrown in. |
| |
What was the first ever record
you bought? |
It was either, Rhythm Device Acid Rock or
Human resourse Dominator, or if Im comletley
honest Behind The Green Door by Shakin Stevens! |
| |
What has been the best and
worst moment of your DJ career so far? |
Best has got to be gaining the residency at the Pier,
not had to many really bad moments, just records jumping,
so fingers crossed it stays like that. |
| |
Which other DJ's do you rate? |
Obviously all the pier residents! And mainly djs
who I used to listen to, like Welly, Nipper, Vertigo and
xtc from mix factory. I also think DJ Ectic is superb,
anyone whos seen this lad play will know what I
mean. |
| |
What do you listen to at home? |
Everthing from the Beatles through to drum and Bass,
I likes all types music and have a very varied taste. |
| |
If you had to spend the rest
of your life on a desert island with only one album, who's
would it be? |
The Stone Roses -The Stone Roses |
| |
Which other clubs have you
played at? |
Maximes and a few other smaller venues, but nothing
on the scale of the pier. . . . . . . . yet. |
| |
If you could play at any venue
where would it be and why? |
There would be so many. I would have loved to have played
places like Shelleys, Quadrent Park, Hacienda, The Pleasuredome
or Bowlers in the early 90s, but as none of these
venues are still open and only one of them is still standing
and also time travel has yet to be invented, I will say
the Gatecrasher events at the NEC because of the size
of it. To play to 12,000 people under one roof would have
to be special. |
| |
Have you any tips for aspiring
young DJ's? |
Keep practicing, never ever think your good enough.
You can always get better!! If you want to play out, start
of by putting your own night on with a few of your friends. |
